However, growing concerns over cybersecurity and national security risks have prompted countries to reduce their reliance on Chinese drones, seeking alternative suppliers. Taiwan currently hosts over 40 drone-related companies, covering both complete system integration and critical component manufacturing, with an industry output of NT$2.8 billion in 2023. The government aims to boost this figure to NT$40 billion by 2030 through a national development plan focused on innovation and market expansion. Additionally, the Ministry of Economic Affairs launched the "Dual-Use Drone Capability Development Program" in 2023, providing subsidies and technical guidance to accelerate industry growth.

To enhance global collaboration, Taiwan's government and industry representatives recently participated in the 2024 XPONENTIAL Drone Expo in the U.S., showcasing Taiwan’s technological prowess at the “Taiwan Drone Pavilion.” The Chiayi County Government has also taken an active role in promoting drone innovation and has announced the establishment of the "Taiwan Drone Supply Chain Alliance" to accelerate industry integration and international market engagement.

Testing and Manufacturing Hubs: Strengthening Taiwan’s Drone Ecosystem

嘉義縣作為台灣無人機產業的核心發展地區，近年來大幅強化基礎建設。自2020年起，縣府與中科院合作推動「無人機創新研發測試驗證計畫」，建立專業測試場域，並於2021年將閒置場地轉型為「亞洲無人機AI創新應用中心」，吸引國內外49家企業與研究機構進駐。此外，政府也同步規劃「義竹大型無人機測試場」，打造適合中大型無人機試飛的基礎設施，以進一步提升產業能量。

Chiayi County has emerged as a central hub for Taiwan’s drone industry, significantly enhancing its infrastructure in recent years. Since 2020, the county government has partnered with the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology to implement the “Drone Innovation, Testing, and Verification Program,” establishing professional testing facilities. In 2021, an unused site was repurposed into the "Asia Drone AI Innovation Hub," now home to 49 enterprises and research institutions. Additionally, the government is developing the "Yizhu Large Drone Testing Facility" to support medium- and large-scale drone flight testing, further strengthening Taiwan’s industry capabilities.
