"Euthanasia, Bah!" Drama by artist Lee Mi calls for adoption rather than buying

During President Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) term of office, 440,000 stray animals in Taiwanese shelters have been euthanized. On January 12, former naked anti-nuclear film artist Lee Mi (李宓) adapted a popular Jolin Tsai song to call on Ma Ying-jeou’s government to abolish euthanasia at animal shelters, thereby reducing stray animal mortality rates in shelters.

Lee Mi said she hoped that through dance and drama people would be urged to adopt instead of buy, reducing the number of stray cats and dogs from the source. Lee Mi has personally adopted three stray cats, and is hopeful that people will spend more effort helping stray animals.

Ho Tsung- hsun (何宗勳), Chief Executive of the Life Conservationist Association (關懷生命協會) said that in a meeting with animal protection groups last year, Ma Ying-jeou promised to investigate the plight of animals in shelters. Although the number of animals euthanized has reduced during President Ma’s term in office, with a total number of 560,000 euthanized stray animals, 440,000 of which have been euthanized in animal shelters, Ma Ying-jeou’s government is being asked to focus more attention on the stray animal issue.

馬英九總統任內，全台收容所流浪動物安樂死數量高達44萬隻。1月12日，曾以裸體拍攝反核影片的藝人李宓，改編流行歌曲「呸」為「安樂死，我呸」，呼籲馬政府，做到收容所零安樂死，降低收容所內流浪動物死亡率。

李宓指出，希望藉舞蹈與行動劇呼籲民眾以認養代替購買，從源頭做起，減少流浪貓狗的數量。李宓表示，自己領養了三隻流浪貓，希望民眾多多幫助流浪動物，關懷生命協會執行長何宗勳表示，馬英九去年接見動保團體時，承諾實際到收容所視察流浪動物的處境，馬總統任內安樂死數量雖有降低，總數56萬隻流浪動物死亡數量中，收容所內死亡的數量仍高達44萬隻，呼籲馬政府關注流浪動物議題。
