Eastcoast Review returns after 4 years of silence

The Eastcoast Review was founded in 1989 by Mr. Yang Shou-quan, who began to painstakingly document eastern Taiwan’s history, culture, ethnic groups and landscape, providing a long-term historical account of the eastern region. The Eastcoast Review has already won numerous awards including, ‘Taiwan Government Information Office Golden Tripod Award for Magazine Publishing (2002)’, and ‘Best Humanities Golden Tripod Award (?2003)’. However, due to the decline of Taiwan’s publishing market and difficulties in acquiring necessary funding, in 2007 the magazine was left with no alternative but to announce that it would have to temporarily cease publication.

Founder, Yang Shou-quan then declared that rights to the review’s name,  distribution and publishing were being passed on to the Eastcoast Culture and Education Foundation.  After four years of silence, the “Eastcoast Review” is back, ?transformed into an Internet publication.  The new“Eastcoast Review” now focuses on six main areas – society; education; environment; spiritual; cultural creativity and tourism – documenting Hualian and Taitung’s culture and history, and incorporating the series of cultural activities held by the Eastcoast Culture and Education Foundation.

沉寂四年 東海岸評論復刊(慈大傳播站)( CJ tzuchicom)

「東海岸評論」雜誌於 1989 年創刊，創辦人為楊守全，深入報導東部歷史人文、族群景觀，並長期紀錄東台灣的故事。東海岸評論雜誌曾獲得行政院新聞局綜合類雜誌金鼎獎（ 2002 ）、人文類優良雜誌金鼎獎（ 2003 )等獎項。但是由於台灣出版市場的衰退以及製作經費的拮据，不得不在2007年宣告暫時停刊，創辦人楊守全把雜誌名稱的使用權、發行權及已發行期刊都捐贈給東海岸文教基金會。在停刊四年後，2011年2月「東海岸評論」轉型在網路上復刊。轉型後的「東海岸評論」以社會、教育、環境、心靈、文創、旅遊等六大項目持續記錄花東人文歷 史，結合東海岸文教基金會舉辦一系列文創活動。同時，東海岸文教基金會也發起東海岸之友，廣邀在地民眾以小額捐款持續支持「東海岸評論」。

為擴大服務範圍，自2010年4月起，PeoPo每周精選三則公民報導及相關活動與發展，翻譯成英文摘要，讓更多關心台灣公民新聞的朋友，瞭解台灣在地大小事。
