Ugly fruits and vegetables are also nutritious
The Greencollar Market on the campus of National Taiwan University has been running for nine years. All registered vendors are passionate about preserving the local environment and guarantee that processed products won’t contain anything harmful to the environment. Ugly fruits and vegetables refer to those that look ugly or whose shape, size, or appearance do not meet the standard requirements of traders. Furthermore, consumers tend to buy aesthetically pleasing products, so so-called “ugly” products go to waste.
Crops grown in an ecologically friendly way aren’t usually beautiful in shape or size, but insect bites or pits and scars on the skin do not detract from their nutrition, and even the texture and flavor are pretty good. If consumers can change their mindset about selecting fruits and vegetables, it will encourage support for friendly-farming practices and is an act of much-needed love for Mother Earth.
