動物園於在民國75年10月31日從圓山遷移至木柵，佔地遼闊約182公頃，是目前亞洲地區最大，且最具規模的動物園。

園內包含8個戶外展示區、6個室內展示館、5個環境教育教學場所，是一處結合自然景觀、生態特色之場所。因逢星期假日人潮塞爆動物園，每個展示區都以﹝人擠人﹞前進觀賞。吃飯地方更是滿滿人潮，最不合理是〈一碗泡麵〉居然叫價80元。
