[Students Occupying Legislature Movement Press Statement] Students consider President Ma's “Economic and Trade National Affairs Conference” a mere formality and call for a major Citizens'  Assembly

Since March 18, the Occupying Legislature Movement has entered its 18th day, with sustaining social support from over half of the public for continuation of the action. After last Sunday's (March 30) 500,000 strong rally, we have reached the consensus that we should spend more time communicating openly with the public to bring depth into the issues at hand. Therefore, we shall hold a major “Citizens’ Assembly” that will proceed for two days this weekend.

This is also our way of showing President Ma Ying-jeou, his administration and the whole society that it is possible for the people to take part in the nation's decision-making process. Tomorrow (April 5), a comprehensive review session of the Cross-Strait Services Trade Agreement will convene both inside and outside the Legislative Yuan. The day after (April 6), a “Citizens’ Constitutional Assembly: Grassroots Conference” focusing on patching up the failed representative democracy will be held as a kickoff session to the “Citizens’ Constitutional Assembly” which is one of our major demands of the government.

台灣的代議政治現在已經完全失靈。目前現狀顯示代議民主已經流為「程序性民主」，所謂的「民主」成為政客與政黨追求私利的邪惡工具，人民只是被動員的臨時演員、投票工具，在所有的重大決策中缺席。
