Cold Winds Greet Greenpeace
On the eve of being decommissioned, and in the hundredth year of the Republic of China, the ‘Rainbow Warrior’, one of Greenpeace’s three vessels, has begun making one last tour of the world to spread the Greenpeace message, and in January they arrived in Taiwan to spread the word to protect our oceans.
Although Taiwan is a relatively small island, after the development of fishing vessels and the incredible breakthroughs in fishing technology, catches of Bluefin Tuna are bigger than anywhere else in the world. Has anyone thought, apart from the obvious effects on the livelihood of those who are involved in the fishing industry, once all the fish have been caught, what are Taiwanese people going to eat? This report asks the people of Taiwan to face up to the problems of our oceans. We also interviewed an open sea fisherman who urged people to stop this large scale net fishing at once.
