Implementing “Leave No Trace” practices in Wenshan Forest Park
In recent years, outdoor activities such as hiking and trekking have gained popularity as excellent ways to connect with nature. Taiwan began promoting the Leave No Trace movement over a decade ago, emphasizing environmentally friendly practices while enjoying the outdoors.
In collaboration with the Taiwan Thousand-Mile Trail Association, Taipei's Wenshan Community College is working to maintain the handmade trails within Wenshan Forest Park, which suffer from severe soil erosion due to frequent rains. The Association utilizes the maintenance of trails as an opportunity to educate participants on Leave No Trace principles and put theory into action with hands-on trail maintenance. However, further support and effort from more individuals are still needed to advance the Leave No Trace movement in mountain forests.
