Discover the beauty of nature - guardians of the forest

According to Taiwan Forestry Bureau (行政院林務局) statistics, Taiwan’s forest coverage rate is 60.71%, twice the global average. Lying at the junction of tropical and subtropical climate zones with its highest peak nearly 4000m above sea level, the island boasts a diverse ecology. However, despite Taiwan’s rich natural resources, many people are clueless when it comes to the environment.

Wu Jie-feng has spent thirteen years taming the wild forest valley into Nature Valley. While promoting the concept of entrusting land to environmental trusts as a means to preserve the natural world for future generations, Wu has attracted the participation of many volunteers over the past decade. Wu’s greatest hope is that through the blueprint of Nature Valley in Hsin Chu, more people in Taiwan will join the ranks of forest guardians.

根據行政院林務局的統計，台灣森林覆蓋率為百分之60.71，高於全球平均值的兩倍。因為台灣位於熱帶與亞熱帶交界處、垂直高差接近4000公尺，因此擁有多樣化的生態。然而，台灣擁有這麼多豐富的自然資源，但許多民眾卻對我們所居住的環境一無所知。

從過去一大片的荒野到如今的綠意盎然，吳杰峯花了13年的時間，才將自然谷復育成如今的山林。這十幾年來，希望能夠吸引更多人一同加入，帶動環境信託成為未來保育山林的趨勢，讓自然谷不再是唯一的案例，並期待台灣能有更多人成為山林守護者。
