Raising awareness about algal reefs starts in one’s own backyard
"Algae reefs are stunningly beautiful places. If you're unfamiliar with them, why not come to see and understand them - you'll willingly devote your life to them." Wherever he goes, Pan Zhong-zheng (潘忠政) expresses his love for algae reef ecosystems and the importance of environmental protection.
Pan has been involved in the environmental protection movement for nearly 30 years. Starting from his hometown in Guanyin, Pan successively mobilized organizations such as the Guanyin Culture Team (觀音文化工作陣) and the Daku River Cultural Association (大堀溪文化協會). For countless years, he has led villagers to understand the land beneath their feet and gathered local forces to jointly protect the environment. Last year, with the hope of raising public awareness and mobilizing a large-scale environmental and civic education movement, Pan launched the "Treasure Taoyuan Algae Reef Referendum (珍愛桃園藻礁公投)."
