Miaoli Houlong Your Shoot records the sight of precious shellfish fossils
For our first Your Shout of 2021, PeoPo specially cooperated with Miaoli Nature Ecology Society (苗栗自然生態學會) to lead citizen journalists on a tour of a million-year-old shellfish fossil layer. Through the tour guide's commentary, participating citizen journalists got a better understanding of the precious natural scenery and the importance of protecting this shellfish fossil layer.
The celebrated shell fossil layer in Guogang, Miaoli was accidentally discovered during the construction of the sealine railway tunnel during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. This stratum section contains vast amounts of shellfish fossils. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, every Your Shoot event is strictly planned with strict epidemic prevention measures to ensure that participating citizen journalists can film with peace of mind.
