Rebuilding Hope With the Heart, Grandma’s Old House
Following the Typhoon Morakot disaster Ruili Village in Meishan Township, Chiayi County suffered heavy losses, with a massive drop in the flow of tourists. Last year old Mrs. Liu Chen Yue Ying’s husband died and so she has had to face the influence of Typhoon Morakot alone, with the road to Ruili cut off, and guest houses deserted of tourists. Fortunately ‘3014’, a group of youngsters who returned to Ruili on vacation and saddened by the bleak scene they saw before them, called upon 300 cyber friends to come to Ruili and help with the re-landscaping work utilizing bamboo provided by locals. There were people from all walks of life including many young students and foreigners, who gave up three weekends in March and April to complete the transformation. It is hoped that in the future the group can raise many events in Ruili and help to combine the local grassroots industries with tourism, developing the local tourist industry.
