The island of Zhongliao in Taoyuan’s Daxi is covered with leek fields. However, the proprietors of one local farm in the area are not satisfied with simply growing herbs. Vanilla Ueno Park has transformed its herbs into natural insecticides. The smell of herbs can drive away farm pests, allowing farmers to dispense with pesticides and artificial fertilizers and build natural organic farms.

In order to achieve the sustainable development of the environment, Vanilla Ueno Park reuses all agricultural waste. It has created a closed-loop system incorporating agriculture, aquaculture, and animal husbandry. Nutrient-rich water from fishponds is used to cultivate probiotics and irrigate crops, transforming the waste from fish farms into fertilizer. Finally, any leftover leaves from crops are used to feed chickens.

Vanilla Ueno Park aims to become a 100% zero-waste, closed-loop farm and actively cooperates with neighboring farms to promote local organic produce in Taoyuan. The park is working to raise awareness about the importance of organic cultivation and recycling for the environment.
