CHEN-MEI’s arts platform brings visibility to indigenous artwork
Is it difficult for indigenous hand-crafted artwork to gain visibility? In 2016, CHEN-MEI Art & Culture Inc. helped establish Taipei Indigenous Contemporary Art Gallery. Through this platform, indigenous artists can not only display their paintings, sculptures and other contemporary artworks in the gallery but also participate in art exhibitions like Little Boar Sculptures organized by CHEN-MEI outside Taipei 101, which made over NT$1 million in sculpture sales.
The existence of contemporary indigenous art raises awareness about the values of indigenous artists. Despite the absence of traditional totems, indigenous artists manage to convey a depth of mood through their artwork. By establishing a platform that raises the visibility of indigenous artists, CHEN-MEI has helped to increase the economic value of contemporary indigenous artwork.
