Finding the lost beauty in old music cassettes
Located in a quiet alley in Taichung's Meicun Road sits an old white house with the words "Nostalgia is time flying to bygone days; melancholy an unfinished story" – this is Cassette Hunter.
On opening the door, one faces a dazzling selection of cassettes, as if entering a time tunnel and traveling back in time. In the early 1980s, cassettes flourished and replaced vinyl records. However, by the end of the 1980s, cassettes began to decline, and digital CDs gradually became the mainstream carrier of music in Taiwan. You Can-bin (游璨賓), founder of the Taichung’s Cassette Hunter said that helping people journey back to the happy memories of yesteryear is the gift he provides patrons.
