The culture of lion head art – Transforming old impressions
Most people associate the grand and awe-inspiring lion's head imagery of Chinese culture with festivities at temple fairs or wedding celebrations. But in Changhua's Lukang Artist Village, you can now see cute miniature versions of the lion's head.
In addition to offering people small lion's heads for display at home, Shi Zhi-xiang (施智翔) began combining elements of the creative industries, and after several modifications, produced hand-painted lion's head postcards. Moreover, Zhi-xiang has miniaturized and cartoonized the lion's head to create a more innocent appearance that can attract the younger generation. That said, these modern and creative lion’s head images still retain all the traditional elements, so that people of all ages can learn the meaning behind such imagery.
