The forest protectors
Nestled between Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range and Pingtung Plain, Liugui’s heavily laden mango and rose apple trees have great allure. But perhaps even more attractive is the wonderland that's home to a group of forest guardians, who are silently searching for a way to help the forest survive.
Lin Wen-zhi (林文智), an associate researcher at Taiwan Forestry Research Institute, shared his experiences of living in Liugui over the past 22 years. Wen-zhi's deep and profound feelings for Liugui transcend the ordinary person’s understanding of the area. In addition to the quiet mountain forest, the driving force for his continued success is his persistence and deep love of trees. Though each test requires a 10-year wait to see results, Lin Wen-zhi happily accepts the wait in the knowledge that each and every tree has a boundless vital essence.
