A sumptuous feast for the senses – Xiufeng Elementary School’s tasty lunches
Steamed sticky rice with pork in lotus leaf, fresh bamboo shoots with salty eggs, and fragrant tea-flavored mountain yam soup are just some of the lavish lunches on offer for only NT$40 at Xiufeng Elementary School in Xizhi District, New Taipei City. Strict management of the ingredients, taste, and nutritional value of its school lunches recently helped Xiufeng Elementary School snatch first place at the 1st Taiwan School Lunch Competition.
Aside from its insistence on providing quality lunches, Xiufeng Elementary School also puts great emphasis on food and agriculture education, stressing healthy eating through “food education” and hands-on farming experience through its “agricultural education” program. By implementing food and agriculture education at lunchtimes, Xiufeng Elementary School aims to cultivate correct eating habits in students from a young age and lay the foundation for healthy living. It is hoped that this award will not only spark a national food and agriculture education movement to teach people about the farm to table process but also bring people closer to the land so that we can collectively build a better environment for all.
