A stroll through Yongle Market – Experiencing the historic flow of change
Located on Dihua Street in the city's bustling tourist area of Dadaocheng, Yongle Market stands surrounded by red brick buildings infused with the nostalgic charm of the Japanese era. The automatic door opens on the 2nd floor to reveal a dazzling display of cloth, which seems to beckon one in to buy. Sauntering through floor upon floor of colorful fabric dazzles the eyes, each inch of cloth exhibiting its own unique brilliance. The stories and historical changes contained within the fabric sit waiting to be discovered by avid shoppers.
In Taiwan, due to the enormous challenges that transformation poses for traditional industries, textile stores and sunset industries alike continue to quietly work away; however, perhaps for this very reason, traditional industries will slowly find a niche in this new era to walk forward with us together.
