A new look for old street – Lingtan Street Creative Hub opens
Formerly declining and deserted, an old Longtan food market in Taoyuan has been revamped with the use of lanterns, paintings and a whole raft of other colorful decorations. Lingtan Street Creative Hub has not only implemented the concept of community regeneration but is also a rare example in Taiwan of successfully using participatory budgeting (PB) to engage communities in local building initiatives. In the past, the street bustled with activity and served as Longtan’s most renowned street food market. Over a 14-year period, the street has witnessed a long period of reconstruction following a major fire. Today, a new wave of enthusiastic individuals is attempting to reinvigorate the neighborhood and have used Longtan’s ancient name, Lingtan, to rename the street. The independently launched Lingtan Street Creative Hub has gradually created a new style for the neighborhood and hopes to revive the market’s former glory days by attracting more people engaged in the field of literature and the arts to the street.
