Farmland for farming! Protect Yilan
Following Yilan County Commissioner Lin Tsung-hsien’s (林聰賢) replacement of Yilan County Government Agricultural Bureau Director Yang Wen-chuan (楊文全), Yilan Guardian Workshop (守護宜蘭工作坊) launched “Pass and Sign”, an activity in support of Yilan County Commissioner and the county’s future. Yang Wen-chuan’s replacement was seen as a sign that Lin Tsung-hsien was unable to resist pressure surrounding the issue of the buying and selling of farmhouses.
Yilan Guardian Workshop founder Lee Pao-lien (李寶蓮) said: “After more than a year of agricultural land battles, the county government can no longer bear the pressure. Regardless of whether this is really a surrender, the county government deserves our encouragement”.
The activity launched by Yilan Guardian Workshop once again indicates the damage to agriculture and the land from the non-agricultural use of farmland. At the event, local smallholder farmers were invited to voice their opinions, and many people visiting the government offices on business signed up in support after understanding the activity’s aims. Countless people also wrote letters to give the county commissioner some words of encouragement.
