“Cheng Cheng’s Candy Box” - a picture book about Type 1 diabetes

Written by author, and Cheng Cheng’s mother, Wang Ya-jing (王雅菁), Cheng Cheng’s Candy Box is a picture book about Type 1 diabetes, providing the public with important information about the illness. The idea for the book came about after Cheng Cheng was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes just after his second birthday, and his mother was forced through the process of adapting to and educating her son about the illness.

Published in 2015, the author, Wang Ya-jing, hopes that readers will link the story to their own life experience and take two important messages away from the book: firstly, that no matter the disease, a child’s dreams should never be destroyed; and secondly, that the sufferers and families of many rare diseases require more goodwill and care from us all.
