Liu Jia-yu’s graduation ceremony

Located in Chiayi’s Fanlu Township, the YongXing Branch of Dapu Elementary School has been affected by low birth rates in the area, and this year only Liu Jia-yu (劉佳育) graduated from the school. In spite of this, the school still put on a grand graduation ceremony that produced a heartwarming scene.

Following Liu Jia-yu’s graduation, the school will be transformed into a “mixed-age teaching” experimental elementary school as part of an overall plan in Chiayi to reduce and merge schools. For the few remaining elementary schools in the area, it remains to be seen whether or not they will survive.

位於嘉義縣番路鄉的大埔國小永興分校，因為少子化的因素，今年雖然只有劉佳育一位畢業同學，但校方依然盛大精心為畢業生舉辦畢業典禮，場面溫馨感人。劉佳育同學畢業之後，永興分校將轉型為「混齡教學」的實驗小學，這也是嘉義縣偏鄉小校裁併計畫，少數存活的小學，未來學校的存廢仍然有待觀察。
