Salary issues cause concern: Foreign spouses fail to receive attention
Located in the vicinity of National Chung Cheng University (中正大學), “Fengshou Village (豐收村)” has a large number of foreign spouses working in the area. The majority choose to eke out a living in Dachi Market (大吃市), a district comprising of local low-priced eateries, and Min Hsiung Industrial Zone (民雄工業區). Unfortunately, many of the workers frequently encounter unfriendly treatment. Former worker in Dachi Market, Ye Zhen (葉珍) said that foreign spouses are normally given the most strenuous jobs, like kitchen work; however, bar work or jobs that involve serving the customer tend to be given to Taiwanese people.
Foreign Vietnamese spouse Ruan Jin-hong (阮金紅) said that in addition to problems with salaries, foreign spouses don’t have any guarantee of labor insurance either, but no one dares to inform the authorities for fear of losing their job. However, foreign spouses who have secured a Taiwanese identity card are essentially already Taiwanese citizens, and should be entitled to all the relevant privileges.
Dr. Li-Chuan Liuhuang (劉黃麗娟), Assistant Professor in the Department of Labor Relations at National Chung Cheng University said that all workers should be protected under the Labor Standards Law and not subjected to discrimination simply because they are foreign spouses. In reality, however, many problems still exist in terms of implementation.

越南外籍配偶阮金紅則表示,除了薪資問題之外,外配也沒有勞健保的保障,但是卻沒人敢檢舉,因為怕失去工作。但是如果已經拿到台灣身分證的外配,已經是台灣人,應該要有相關的權利。中正大學勞工關係學系助理教授劉黃麗娟則表示,只要是勞工,基本上都應該要受到勞基法的保護,不會因為是不是外國籍而受到歧視;但是在實際的落實上面,問題還是很多。
