Following cerebral concussion and a viral infection in her youth, Jian Ling-qi (簡綾圻) was left with a severe hearing impairment. However, through her mother's support and optimism, Jian Ling-qi neither fears her silent world, nor shrinks back due to the restrictions she faces; on the contrary, she continually musters the courage to try all kinds of activities.

Jian Ling-qi not only frequently travels abroad alone, but also studies Japanese and has worked as a model - even surfing has failed to beat her indomitable spirit! If fact, her biggest challenge is with daily living and interpersonal communication. Fortunately, due to her cordial and optimistic personality she has the strength to break through communication difficulties, and although fully aware of the kinds of struggles people with a severe hearing impairment face, she firmly believes that it is important not to let physical defects infringe on one’s opportunity to grow.
