Lin Wen-ping (林文平), who works in the field of literature and history in Kaohsiung’s Liugui District, enjoys spending his days mingling with the elderly residents of the area, where he collects the sharp wit of two-part allegorical sayings. After close to a decade of avid collecting, he has notched up approximately one thousand such sayings, which he has published as “A Collection of Taiwanese Two-part Allegorical Sayings (台灣歇後語典).” The sayings are not only an outward expression of the wisdom and life of Taiwanese people throughout the ages, but are also overflowing with folk humor, making them a real treasure to the people of Taiwan. In addition to promoting these two-part allegorical sayings, Lin Wen-ping (林文平) is also actively creating topographical poetry, displaying a strong sense of humanism and historical appreciation.
