Keelung City is home to an 84-year-old lover of calligraphy. The elderly ladywas originally illiterate but after wholeheartedly throwing herself into the study ofcalligraphy, she literally fell in love with the art. Since that time her life has reallybeen on the up, and she picks up the newspaper every day in order to slowly learnwords. Through the repetitive calligraphy writing practice, she has not only developeda wonderful hobby but found a real sense of contentment; hence calligraphy hasbecome an important part of her daily life. Grandma doesn’t only practice calligraphyat home, but also often participates in community activities, where her spirit of studyhas won the admiration of the community. Grandmother embodies the spirit of study, reminding us all that an interest need not only be fun, but can also be the driving forceof one’s life.
