Broom star in the street
When Wang Jian-nan, who is a bit of an expert when it comes to hand-made brooms, found himself unemployed he decided to take to selling the handcrafted traditional broom as second career. 51-year-old Wang Jian-nan was suddenly made redundant last year and immediately faced a struggle to make ends meet. However, he was unwilling to let the situation overwhelm him and immediately looked to find a solution. He began daily trips through the streets of Kaoxiung City on his tricycle selling brooms.
Wang Jian-nan expressed that although it can be tough going peddling a tricycle through the city streets, however peddle power actually responds to the environmental problems of today, and also means that he doesn’t need to dip into his own pocket for petrol money. In spite of the fact that Wang Jian-nan only earns a meager three or four hundred dollars per day, nevertheless he still painstakingly makes his daily rounds. In the past, Wang Jian-nan trained in plumbing and electrical work and so sees his broom rounds as an opportunity to try hand out his business cards and drum up some new business. He is determined not to allow unemployment to hinder his way forward in life and adamant that only be striving forward can one work back his self respect and dignity.
