2024's first Try Shoot+: Witnessing the vision of Yilan's young farmers
For PeoPo's first Try Shoot+ event this year, we went to Yilan's Yuanshan Township, dubbed Taiwan's "hometown of water" because it boasts the freshest water in the country. Through the lens of citizen reporters, we explored the concept behind Nei-Cheng Ecological Farm and the exciting stories of young farmers returning to their hometown.
Farmers rely on nature for their livelihood, especially those using eco-friendly organic farming methods that avoid pesticides or fertilizers. Such methods pose many challenges to farmers, as Li Yu-jing, the owner of Peh-tsap-tian Barn, knows only too well. Since returning from the city to become a farmer, she has faced many difficulties, and while discussing her farming experience with citizen journalists, she broke down in tears. Even for citizen journalists who are Yilan natives, having the opportunity to show concern for their hometown for the first time was a moving experience.
We look forward to citizen journalists continuing to explore fascinating local stories in the next Try Shoot+ event.
