After last year’s Typhoon Morakot washed away Jialan Elementary School, the school planned a new multifunctional building combining a kitchen and teacher’s dormitory taking the place of the old kitchen. With the help of the BenQ Foundation, in April work finally got underway, with the completion day scheduled for Teachers Day on the 28th of September.
This is the first school-rebuilding project to be finished in Taiwan following last years Typhoon Morakot. The new building has an area of around 1000 square meters, including a school, 6 teacher’s living quarters and an activity center. School principle Guo Chuanhong proudly showed off the school’s shiny new equipment, and the new LED lighting system that is set to cut the annual electricity bill by a half.
