100-Year Old Police Office Gets Facelift

A year after the Typhoon Morakot disaster many buildings that received damage are only now beginning the process of restoration work.  The near on 100-year old Dong Xing police station in Zhongpu Township, Chiayi County is one of these buildings.  A combination of years of wear and tear and the effects of Typhoon Morakot forced the resident police officers to move to a nearby station to work, raising concern from local residents that the community’s law and order would be affected.  News that funds had been granted to begin restoration work on the old police station delighted locals who are now looking forward to the completion expected in October and of course the new zest of life the facelift will bring.

八八水災到現在一年多，有許多受損的建築才開始動工修復，嘉義縣中埔鄉的東興派出所，建築物本身是一棟接近百年歷史的老建築，但是因為年久失修又碰到水災，警員撤離到附近派出所辦公，居民都擔憂附近治安會受到影響，直到最近派出所終於獲得經費開始整修，預計十月初完工，居民都期待工程早日完工，讓派出所空窗期早點度過。
