A Singer with a Rare Disease Courageously Facing Life
The street performer Qiong Yu, who suffers from the rare Marfan syndrome, is someone you’ll often see performing in Taipei Station’s basement mall. She has gone through countless operations, is blind in her right eye and has only partial vision in her left eye. In addition to this, as a direct result of her disease she is unusually tall at 182 centimeters. The hugely optimistic Qiong Yu, brushes everything off as ‘ troublesome’. In the beginning, due to Qiong Yu’s peculiar appearance, she found it extremely difficult to interact with people. However, owing to her strong religious faith and a tenacious personality, she slowly began to begin facing the world and managed to earn herself a place in university. As a result of a swollen principle artery, she once had to undergo 17 hours of surgery, an incident that made her realize how to savor each and every moment of life. Currently, every weekend Qiong Yu uses her exquisite voice to warm the hearts of passers-by, as well as using her valuable life experience to help others find the courage to optimistically face life.
