Promoting the renovation of parks to protect children's right to play
In recent years, the traditional terrazzo slides in Taiwan's park playgrounds have been dismantled one after another. In order to meet safety requirements or reduce costs, plastic "cookie-cutter" playground equipment has often been used. However, such playground equipment stinks on hot days, is prone to static electricity, is monotonous and rigid, and lacks challenge for kids, adversely influencing children's right to play.
Since 2015, Parks and Playgrounds For Children By Children(台灣還我特色公園行動聯盟), which has long been concerned about children's right to play, has continued to promote challenging and adventurous play equipment, participating in at least 300 park renovation design reviews and site surveys each year. So far, it has driven more than 200 eye-catching playgrounds in 13 cities and counties all over Taiwan. Through citizen participation, we can promote the concept of playfulness in parks, rediscover fun playgrounds in our memories, and protect children's right to play.
