County Commissioner’s Outstanding Track Record

At a prescheduled time in the early hours of the morning and armed with excavators, Miaoli County government utilized the full might of the police to forcibly expropriate the land in Dapu village, bringing about a storm of protest from people in all walks of life, all over Taiwan. 

Taking a satirical view, citizen journalists have created a short film blending images from Miaoli’s previous invitation to international level art and cultural performances  with excavators entering Dapu farmland and scenes from the villager’s protests. 

Citizen journalists have used this short film to ridicule Miaoli County Commissioner Liu Zheng-hong: ‘A self proclaimed five-star county commissioner, who has raised numerous activities to elevate Miaoli’s profile, but surprisingly with regards to weak and vulnerable farmers, show’s contempt and coldness’.

Through this short film citizen journalists have made clear: raising the cultural profile is not only about inviting international superstars, but, more importantly about respecting the land and the people.
