Luzhunan Ancestral Homes: the preservation of traditional architecture
Luzhunan in Toufen Township, Miaoli County, is an old community with a history of 300 years. With more than 50 Fujian-style traditional courtyard homes remaining, Luzhunan has been promoting educational and cultural activities to revitalize the community. Through guided tours of the community and hands-on activities, Luzhunan hopes Taiwanese culture and folk customs will be better understood by the public and kept alive for future generations to come.
Full of retro flavor, the ancestral homes of Luzhunan transport one back to yesteryear. Though traditional courtyard homes were a central part of life for countless generations of people in Taiwan, few such homes remain today due to government industrialization policies. We are fortunate that the beauty of living in traditional courtyard homes and working together as a harmonious community can still be experienced in Luzhunan.
