Destroy Ecology for Economy? Chang Hua Fisherman Furious Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology Co Go Home!
With the purpose of manufacturing and exporting petrochemical products,Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology Co are planning to locate on the coast of central Zhanghua County, reclaiming two thousand hectares of land from the sea. The area however is considered an extremely important wetland habitat and in addition is home to many Taiwanese oyster farmers.
The farmers are worried that in the future Kuokunang Petrochemical Technology Co will pollute this finely balanced local ecological systemandare refusing to accept such a destructive industry into their community. In defiant protest of this proposed development the farmers have traveled to Taipei and congregated outside the presidential palace to lobby the government on this issue, a government who seem willing to sacrifice the local fisherman’s way of life and right to survive.
In addition, the above mentioned proposed development site is a migration corridor for the endangered Chinese White Dolphin, which according to a recent academic report has only several hundred remaining. Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology Co’s future development is set to severely endanger the survival of the Chinese White Dolphin.

為了生產石化產品外銷，國光石化計畫在台灣中部彰化縣的海岸填海造陸兩千公頃，該處海岸是重要的溼地，也是漁民養殖牡蠣的地方。靠海維生的漁民擔心國光石化未來可能造成生態的汙染，特地到總統府前表達抗議，反對政府為了高污染的產業，犧牲了生態與漁民的生存權。而該處海岸也是保育類動物中華白海豚的洄游廊道，根據學者調查，中華白海豚目前數量僅剩數百隻，國光石化的建設將嚴重危害中華白海豚的生存。
