Citizen Journalist Training Camp

 
As the scorching heat of summer approaches, the citizen journalist platform PeoPo is giving college students another option on how to spend your summer vacation, ‘Citizen Journalist Training Camp’. In just one week you will be taken through and understand the practical ins and outs of the news making process.  ‘Citizen Journalist Training Camp’ takes places in July and August of every year, and this year is the fourth time PeoPo have held such an event.  There are already over 400 young citizen journalist seedlings spreading the citizen journalist word in universities all over Taiwan.
 
What exactly is ‘Citizen Journalism’? There are probably many young students who don’t fully understand.  Not to worry! All you have to do is participate in PeoPo’s meticulously planned course, which will have senior media professionals talking from their personal experience as well as workers from media reform organizations sharing their ideas with you. In addition, the course will provide real practical operational skills in news making, giving you a rich summer harvest, no matter whether you are a media student or not.
 
‘Citizen News Journalism’ is for those with a ‘citizen viewpoint’ and ‘citizen awareness’, and doesn’t emphasis the need for specialist equipment.  As long as you have the mind to use a digital camera, and use computer-editing software, then you can start covering local issues, recording real stories from real people, all over Taiwan.   In the past, students of the ‘Citizen Journalist Training Camp’ used simple digital cameras to report on public issues and were awarded with PTS’s prestigious ‘Citizen Journalism Award’.

炎炎暑假即將要來臨，PeoPo公民新聞平台提供大專學子另一種過暑假的新選擇：報名「大專公民記者新聞暑期營」，就可以在一週內了解跑新聞的各種實務操作過程。「大專公民記者新聞暑期營」在每年的七月、八月各有一梯次，今年是PeoPo公民新聞平台舉辦的第四屆實習營隊，過去已經有將近四百位公民新聞的大專種子，散布在全台各地大專院校。
 
「公民新聞」是什麼？或許很多大專學子還是似懂非懂，不過只要參加PeoPo精心安排的一周內課程，有資深專業的媒體工作者現身說法，也有媒體改造相關組織團體的工作人員共同分享，對於「公民新聞」有深入淺出的介紹；再加上實際操作、跑新聞的練習，讓許多非傳播科系與傳播科系的學子，在暑假中有更豐富的實習收穫。
 
「公民新聞」訴求「公民觀點」與「公民意識」的抬頭，不強調使用的器材是否專業，只要您有心，用數位相機加上電腦剪接軟體，就可以報導各地發生的議題一起記錄台灣大小事。過去也曾經有大專公民記者實習營的學員，利用簡單的數位相機拍攝，就拍出具公共議題性的作品，榮獲公視「公民新聞獎」的殊榮。
