Tengliaozai paper skills rekindle the past
In the village of Tengliaozai in Chiayi County, pieces of freshly formed handmade paper can be seen spread out flat under the scorching sun. Tengliaozai was once an important town for the domestic production of traditional paper. Today, although the handmade paper industry has all but vanished, the skill of traditional papermaking has survived.
Today, Tengliaozai Happy School is an important gathering place for locals. Each Friday, there are countless activities for the elderly, and they eat a communal meal together. Thanks to Professor Chen Yujing (陳毓璟) of Chung Cheng University Department of Adult and Continuing Education, many young people have also joined. This provides company for elderly residents and an opportunity for learning together, promoting the inclusiveness of generations and achieving the goal of intergenerational exchange.
In Tengliaozai, a group of seniors refused to accept the onset of age and began working together. In addition to giving each other company, they are also helping to pass on local culture so that more people can witness the beauty of Tengliaozai.
