In the early 1950s and 60s, elegant patterned glass was common in Taiwan. However, changes in house construction methods led to a decrease in the demand for patterned glass, and it has gradually all but disappeared from our lives. Zhong Xin-ying, who has a passion for collecting old objects, uses old patterned glass in the inlay process to give a new look and style to discarded glass.
Glass inlay is very time-consuming work. One must go through a long process of cutting, grinding, wrapping with copper foil, soldering, dyeing, polishing, etc. Before soldering, a thin layer of copper tape is affixed to the edge of the glass and then soldered. The purpose is to connect all the surfaces with the solder and form the glass into a three-dimensional object.
