Breaking barriers – People with disabilities build confidence through dance
Most participants in the Ya-Te Cup Special Games(亞特盃心智障礙運動會)are children with physical and mental disabilities. Though their dance movements may not be the smoothest, brimming with earnestness and doing their utmost to keep up with the beat while jointly shouting slogans with great gusto, the children moved every person in the audience.
Due to the innate limitations of children with mental disabilities, it is difficult for them to compete with ordinary children on a level playing field, and there are very few opportunities for them to participate in competitions. Therefore, the games are intended to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to win their first trophy in life and build self-confidence, enabling them to thrive with the support of family, teachers, and activities.
