Improved printing press pushes the envelope of traditional industry
Letterpress printing was one of China ’s four major inventions and helped to promote the spread of culture and knowledge. Sadly, this old craft has gradually fallen into decline in recent years. To continue the tradition, architecture graduate Yan Hong-lin transformed the traditional large-scale press into a miniature device so that ordinary people could experience the joy of press printing.
Yan Hong-lin’s printing shop holds innovative hands-on activities and courses to ensure the continuation of traditional arts and crafts. It has also established a printing company in Taipei’s arts district, Dadaocheng, connecting the paper industry with the local industry and bringing people closer to this traditional craft.
