NGO extends helping hand to resource-strapped Africa
Sanitary pads are an essential item in every woman’s life. In Taiwan, a wide variety of sanitary pads are readily available from convenience stores. In Africa, however, where the degree of development is slower and even access to food is often a problem, sanitary pads are a veritable luxury and many women have no access to them.
Recently, the counseling office at Ginling Girls’ High School in New Taipei City contacted Step 30 to get involved in its Love Binti Project. In just two months, students at the school made 1000 sanitary pads and sent them to Africa as a token of their goodwill and love. Now in its fourth year, the Love Binti Project is expanding its program to refugee camps on the Ugandan border, where girls are being taught the skills necessary to make their own sanitary pads.
The Love Binti Project plans to continue collecting sanitary pads and implementing teaching activities in Africa long into the future. As long as women still need sanitary pads, the Love Binti Project will continue extending a helping hand and sending its love.
