2018 PeoPo Citizen Journalism Awards highlight passion for local issues
Established to promote civic engagement and reward outstanding reports from citizen journalists, PeoPo Citizen Journalism Awards is an annual event co-hosted by PTS and The Foundation for Excellent Journalism Award that showcases the passion and concern of local people for civic issues in Taiwan.
This year’s event received a total of 215 entries that touched on topics ranging from care for stray animals and changes to rural communities to long-term care for the elderly and traditional crafts, etc., providing a unique perspective on local Taiwanese issues through the eyes of ordinary people.
PeoPo Citizen Journalism Platform also presented a number of special awards to thank particular CJs including Axi, who has worked to highlight vulnerable groups; Arpen, who has shone a spotlight on Hakka affairs; and Oldken, who has captured the richness of Nantou on record. Hopefully, PeoPo Citizen Journalism Awards will encourage more people to get involved in citizen journalism and voice out on the stories that matter in communities throughout Taiwan.
