Shuangxi Elementary breaks the mold and develops adventure syllabus
Children can be seen walking a tightrope while holding ropes on either side, slowly inching forward step by step; this is no ordinary tightrope walk, but merely one class in the exciting adventure syllabus at Shuangxi Elementary School. Due to the school's unique location surrounded by mountains, a very special adventure sports syllabus was created that includes activities such as rock climbing, tree climbing, tightrope walking, and river tracing.
The school principal, Zhang Yucheng (張育成), informed us that most of the current school curriculum has elements of exploration and adventure integrated into it, which forces children to use their initiative in learning to solve problems. The open and relaxed environment helps kids to learn faster and nurtures their creative potential.
Education in rural districts doesn't require city teaching methods, like continual examinations and force-fed drills, but instead the development of courses appropriate to local areas with practical applications. Educators should never forget the importance of student interest in education.
