Protecting Taiwan’s national treasure - Formosan Black Bear Conservation Association.

As Taiwan’s only indigenous bear species, in terms of environmental conservation and culture, the Formosan black bear carries special importance. Its survival is not only significant to the island as a species but also relates to the overall biodiversity and integrity of the forest ecosystem. The Formosan Black Bear Conservation Association is committed to getting the Formosan black bear removed from the list of endangered species. It encourages everyone to participate in conservation activities and do their bit for this auspicious national treasure of Taiwan.

Formosan Black Bear Conservation Association founder, Huang Mei-hsiu (黃美秀), said: “If there were no bears in Taiwan’s forests, it would be like going home to a house without your family. Wild animals are the soul of Taiwan’s mountains. If, one day, they disappear, how will we face ourselves?” The Formosan Black Bear Conservation Association is eager for the concept of conservation to take root in the minds of Taiwan’s children.
