Passing on the torch – Hope for disadvantaged kids
What do second-hand bookstores make you think of? Selling books others don't want? Cheap prices? Mr. Huang Jin-shan, who worked at the World Trade Center in Taichung before retiring, is the proprietor of Xinchuang, a small second-hand bookstore in Chiayi near Minxiong Station. For Mr. Huang, opening Xinchuang Bookshop was never about making money, but to give kids the opportunity of changing their fortunes in life.
For many people, Xinchuang Bookshop is probably just an ordinary second-hand bookstore, but for the children, it’s like a second home, where they can study with peace of mind. In Mr. Huang's eyes, every underprivileged kid is like a fallen angel. No matter what challenges lie along the way, Mr. Huang is determined to overcome any obstacles and give such kids a helping hand so they can blossom, spread their wings, and pursue their dreams in life.
