PeoPo Taipei Your Shoot – Searching for remnants of the waterways
Liugong and Wulixue used to be the main irrigation waterways in the Taipei Basin. However, while developing the city and its transport infrastructure, the waterways were covered and turned into drainage ditches, gradually fading from people’s memories. Fortunately, the Da-an branch of Liugong irrigation waterway still remains in the vicinity of Drunken Moon Lake on National Taiwan University’s campus, providing students and visitors with a glimpse into Taipei’s former agrarian lifestyle.
Jointly organized by PeoPo Citizen Journalism Platform and Da-an Community College, this latest Your Shoot event introduced citizen journalists to the hydrological history of Taipei. With memories of former days in Taipei gradually fading into obscurity, the community college and volunteers are endeavoring to keep the hydrological history of the city alive and introduce more people to hydrological relics in the hope of creating a better urban water environment.
