Wanhua School's culinary community hub
Towards evening, as most people are rushing home to put their feet up, Wanhua School is just coming alive. Although it is the first time that they have met, there is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at the table. Founder Chen De-jun (陳德君) has been busy in the kitchen roasting fish, simmering rice, and steaming sweet potatoes, preparing a sumptuous home-cooked meal for the people of Wanhua.
“Clear out the refrigerator, promote zero leftovers!” As the slogan suggests, people are encouraged to contribute any food left in the refrigerator for a communal meal. Aside from aiming to achieve zero leftovers, it also provides a free venue where the people of Wanhua can get to know each other. Every Wednesday, vendors in the traditional market hand over any unsold food to Wanhua School for the school's dinner events, which are helping to build strong community cohesion.
