“Wind Spirits” courageously fight to recover self-confidence
Wind Spirits (風神車隊) is the name of a handcycle enthusiast group composed of people with physical disabilities. Since its establishment, Wind Spirits has been actively involved in various activities aimed at helping people with physical disabilities lead an active life. Through the promotion of handcycles and a network of people passionate about passing on their experience with newbies, people with disabilities are being encouraged to “overcome the timidity in their heart”.
Starting with only a dozen or so members, the group is now 100-plus strong including volunteers. The group not only provides professional training and regularly holds life-sharing sessions, but also organizes an annual handcycle island tour, which is fast becoming a must-do for members of Wind Spirits. In spite of the blood, sweat and tears, the island tour gives disabled participants a rich harvest of precious memories beyond the comprehension of most able-bodied people. With the help of handcycles, disabled people are rediscovering their smiles and getting back the courage to strive ahead in life. Wind Spirits is committed to keep riding forward and helping disabled friends find self-confidence and tap into their own unlimited power within.
