Wednesday lunch days at Fengshou community provide mutual help and protection

Located in Chiayi’s Minxiong Township, the community center of Fengshou provides free lunches to local residents each Wednesday afternoon. But with more than 100 meals to provide at each serving, the long-term outlay for ingredients is quite considerable. Currently, funds are dependent on private donations, but the community is looking for other channels to stabilize a source of funding into the future. Caring for local elderly residents through the provision of lunches not only builds community cohesion but also creates space and time for mutual interaction, which may be why Wednesday meal times have become an indispensable part of life for the residents.
